Catalyst Physical Therapy and Wellness
1333 Camino del Rio S #103, San Diego, CA 92108, United States
In April 2016 I had was suffering from two unrelated problems: 1)a slapping walking gait & hip pain, and 2)pain, sleeplessness and limited range of motion in my L shoulder. I chose Catalyst on the recommendation of my good friend, Mike Jackson, at Movin Shoes in Pacific Beach. Brian did a quick evaluation and then Calvin, through his massage and manipulation, determined my chief problems: gait and hip: piriformis syndrome; shoulder: shoulder capsule impingement. Right then I signed up for two sessions/wk with the physical therapists. [35 years ago my physician had prescribed PT for a frozen shoulder. That experience was clinical and boring, and I went for the minimum required.]CATALYST IS DIFFERENT! The Catalyst team uses the Applied Functional Science approach. Catalyst is fun! Catalyst gets to the nub of problems with positive attitude and encouragement. The mood in the large, sunny room is upbeat because the team is cohesive and collegial. Every one of the staff is engaged in his/her own physical activity (running, trail biking, soccer, extreme sports), and as a former runner from age 50-60, I felt right at home now at age 70. I really looked forward to going each time because I learned a lot from Kelsey, Ralph & Kristen; in fact, I liked seeing different therapists because each has a slightly different take, offering subtle and useful suggestions for my stretching, strength & endurance work. I worked hard and I could feel my own improvement in my movements and range of motion. I loved that I could do my warmups while watching Serena Williams or a soccer game on a flat panel screen as I worked out. I loved that a patient with a young child could bring the child in. We've all enjoyed numerous babies, toddlers, and pet dogs (including Brian's). In short, Catalyst creates a community of people working together toward health and wellness. After a year I “graduated” from physical therapy (look for the photo on their Wall of Fame) and I immediately signed up for Personal Training with Jena. This worked perfectly as she had assisted me during the physical therapy sessions, so she simply continued and expanded on what I'd been doing with the therapists & could easily confer with Kelsey, Ralph or Kristen as needed. It's also great to work with Jena in the same room, as staff members greet me personally, give me a high-five as I complete two sumo transits and show off my wide range of motion. I also had a series of massages from Kristen, who knew all my needy spots! The only reason I must leave Catalyst is that my husband and I are moving out of state. It will be hard for me to leave my friends at Catalyst, as we bonded over the World Series, seeking nice and affordable apartments, chocolate cookie recipes, the best canyons for hiking and biking, TV series, movies. I will have a list of all my stretches and exercises and I hope I can find a physical therapy and wellness practice in my new city so I can continue to stay healthy and well.
Athletic Edge Physical Therapy

Natasha was super helpful in getting me back to my feet. I came in with Achilles tendonitis, and she rehabbed me to fully strength without pushing me to do any painful exercises. Got me back to a more than fit level for a professional soccer player, and incorporated multiple different treatments to make sure I was fully recovered, including training sessions at a local field to do soccer specific rehabilitation. She also made sure to follow up with me on multiple occasions to make sure my progress and home exercise programs were going well. Would definitely recommend her to anybody who needs targeted sports therapy (like soccer) or any type of physical therapy for that matter! A physical therapist that addresses the overall dysfunction and not just the current problem at hand!

... for attendees to choose from (a strength exercise set and a cardio exercise set). I actually really appreciate that the classes are designed so that you can go back to back if you want to do both types of workouts and the times they occur are really friendly to my i like to sleep in and I like to avoid traffic after work habits. Also Kainoa is an EXCELLENT personal trainer. Hes a former pro-soccer player who understands injuries, shows up with a smile on his face every dang day, and is nothing but encouraging while pushing you to perform in a way that isnt annoying or stressful to the athlete! i have worked with trainers before and they seem to be on their own agenda but Kainoa really takes into consideration your goals and helps you along the pathways to accomplish them by integrating unique workouts that also touch on elements of physical therapy (something you dont get at most other gyms) to help you perform exercises correctly and consistently.Even if you dont go to the fit societe classes on their schedule, the trainers are really flexible and willing to help you out if youre just around when they are (I think they may be starting open gym hours soon)! i really love that the programs are designed to emphasize mechanics, ensuring that you do the exercises properly, and are really able to help you if you have a deficiency in your technique. Ive learned so much in the 3 months Ive been going to the classes and I cant wait to learn more! One final thing I have to say is that I admittedly *Hate* yoga but they have a class on Saturday mornings and I decided to give it a try last week. I was so impressed at how Krista noticed immediately one of the reasons I hate it (my flexibility) and she told me how to make yoga WORK for ME in a way no other instructor has ever realized. she corrected my super bendy form to ensure i was engaging muscles people are usually fighting to release and ensure that i was able to gain some progress from the class and help me be more mindful ...

Chuze Fitness Is a perfect example of how NOT to do business. I was one day past due on my monthly deduction and they added a 50% penalty!!!! Admittedly it was my bad because I paid using a fraud protection acct debit card and sometimes forget to add funds and has happened a few times free money for them since I was unknowingly gigged 50% every time.I spoke with some girl who was supposed to be the manager and she said they would reverse if I gave them my bank and routing info which no one should EVER do because it is next to impossible stop if you want to cancel I am sure they know that so I said if you are not going to reverse to 50% charge for being 1 day late cancel my membership. She was just kinda like whatever and did not really care definitely made me feel unwelcome.Super disappointed as it was a really nice facility and convenient location. But I refuse to give someone my money when they really dont care if I was a customer or not. I should have looked at their better business bureau online as it appears I am not the only one who has had this issue among other issues like people not being able to cancel memberships so glad I did not give my bank info ;-) Sooo.... looks like I am in the hunt for a new gym if anyone has a good recommendation. Kinda bummed I liked that place.UPDATE: They just do not get it, I do not know of a payment processing company on earth that charges if a card does not process the 1st time. Since we do this all day in our business I find this insulting. I also wonder why I am not notified before my payment is charged Like we do in our business and every other auto payment I use? That way I can make sure there are funds in fraud acct to cover. Their condescending and false response just firms up why I will be looking for a gym that actually cares. Good luck Chuze Fitness keep your 50% fee! Such a wrong response on your end. Hi Robert,This email is in response to your recent Google review and FaceBook message. We are sorry to hear of your recent displeasure with your $10 service charge. I would like to elaborate further as to why we have this fee and present to you some strategies to avoid this situation from occurring in the future.Anytime a members billing does not draft successfully, our billing company charges us a $10 service fee that we then charge to the member. We understand that certain circumstances do occur that are beyond the members control, such as account fraud, card lost or stolen, etc. For this reason, we waive this fee as a one time courtesy. We see that this fee has been waived for you in the past, but since we continue to have issues drafting from your account, we would not be able to waive this fee again, unless you update to a checking account on file. I see that this option was presented to you as mentioned in your review.Checking accounts are our preferred method of payment as they do not expire and will not change if a card number changes or expires. Additionally, I have outlined below a few other options that may be a better option for you.-You may pay ahead for your membership each month. With a minimum of 10 days advanced notice, you may stop by the club and pay ahead for your monthly or annual dues with cash or credit card. This will prevent your checking account or card on file from being charged for that month. You can do this every month or just the months you deem necessary.-Update to a different account on file or change the date of your billing due date. You may stop by the club and change the date of your invoices to a date that is more convenient for you.-Change your membership to a paid in full option. All of our memberships have the option to be paid in full for the year. You wouldnt have to worry about charges drafting and can renew the membership just once per year. Please feel free to reach out with any further questions or stop by the club to make any necessary account changes.Kind regards,

As a hardcore gym addict, I didn't understand the importance of mobility. I just figured my soreness, aches, and pains were normal. It wasn't until earlier this year that I hurt my shoulder and couldn't figure out what to do to rehab it. One of my friends had been seeing Coach Ry for one of her injuries, and spoke about how quickly she had achieved comfort and an increased range of motion. After that, I started seeing Coach Ry on a weekly basis. Her original assessment of me was spot on, and she took the time to explain her program and the expectations on my end. Now, I see her every week for treatments, which depends on her assessment of me and where I am most sore. My homework consists of daily stretches/foam rolling/lacrosse ball work, which she customize to the individual and modifies as your mobility/pain improve. She is so attentive, engaged, and actually cares about her clients. She checks in with me to see how my program is going, and if there is anything else she can do. I am consistently blown away by her dedication and investment. Both my husband and mom see her now, and we couldn't be happier! Thanks, Coach Ry, for taking our fitness to another level!

Nexus Physical Therapy
5353 Mission Center Rd #120, San Diego, CA 92108, United States
High praise for Dominick and his team at Nexus Therapy in Mission Valley. I received PT for a meniscectomy enduring pain, inflammation and limited ROM. This was a positive experience from the start with Dominick's investment in my therapeutic outcomes. He pursued best technique for me and upped my workout and stretching challenges diligently. He is very knowledgeable and willing to share the biomechanics of my treatments with me as well as being warm and personable. His focus and commitment inspired me to be as conscientious with my regime at home. His encouragement and support were appreciated and motivational. There is something to be said for being empowered with a good physical therapy regime and that starts and finishes with a great physical therapist. The Mission Valley office atmosphere is upbeat, and the attentive staff felt like family. I will miss Dominick, Omar and Jasmine as I really looked forward to my appointments and yes to the personable attention I received as did all of Dominick's patients while I was there. I wholeheartedly recommend Dominick and Nexus Therapy in Mission Valley.
Chuze Fitness
11985 Bernardo Plaza Dr, San Diego, CA 92128, United States
Needed a gym for travel and they offer a month to month membership for $40 bucks. Probably a little high considering their 12 month special is $10 per month. But I needed a landing spot and decided to use their facility while in town. The gym itself is medium size with all newer equipment. Tons of cardio machines (bikes, rowers, ellipticals, steppers, treadmills). They have plenty of TVs hanging for the cardio area and have assigned stations, such as CNN, Fox news, ESPN, CBS. You can plug into the cardio machine to listen or just read the closed captions. They offer popular classes such as Zumba, Yoga and a seniors class. They offer these during prime hours. They have one of those 30 minute circuit rooms for quick workouts. The free weight area is a bit small and can get crowded. I have tried going during peak and its hard to get a routine flow going, so I stick to off hours. There are a lot of stand alone cable weight machines as well. Things they dont have are basketball, pool and 24/7 hours. Being in Rancho Bernardo I am not sure they could support being open 24/7 so the hours seem right. They just dont have enough space for the other amenities some other gyms offer. Now the most impressive thing about this gym I have witnessed. The staff seems to be well run and are always friendly and helpful. The gym is one of the cleanest and well maintained I have seen. This relates to management and the team in general. They are always cleaning. You dont really see staff hanging out by the counter for long periods of time. They seem to be constantly moving either cleaning or checking to make sure equipment is functional and in the assigned spot. They also always greet you with a smile and tell you goodbye. Overall I dont see how they can improve on this facility other than a little more free weight space. Will be using this gym as my travel spot in the future.
Incinerate Fitness
5402 Ruffin Rd #104, San Diego, CA 92123, United States
Where do I start with Incinerate Fitness and its owner and personal trainer Roger. I came across Incinerate through online site Bark. From our first correspondence he was professional and just had great fun energy, so we scheduled a session to see if it was a fit. He asked all the right questions before our session about my health, injuries and what I thought were my limitations. After that workout I was hooked and sore. Although, I had scheduled with a couple of other trainers I knew this gym and trainer were a fit for me.Roger has such great energy to keep you motivated even when you dont have it in yourself to start. But over time it rubs off plus you start to see those results not only in how you look but how you feel. I came in with a back injury due to work plus carrying extra weight. Within these short 3 months my back pain has decreased greatly and I feel so much better in my day to day. The environment is laid-back and no egos, everyone is just friendly and encouraging. I will be coming back and excited to see what my 6mo progress will look like. Only con no weekend availability but an owner and trainer has to have a life too.... right?
Evolve Physical Therapy Advance Wellness
11468 Sorrento Valley Rd, San Diego, CA 92121, United States
I have gotten the best care imaginable at Evolve Physical Therapy. The staff at Evolve are exceptional - the best I've found. They've helped me recover from a major neck surgery and a serious shoulder surgery. The expertise of the PT's is impressive. When I had more recent aggravating knee issues last year, the problem turned out to be a combination of several issues. One of the PTs, Kevin, narrowed down the two primary culprits causing my knee pain, and its now over 85 percent improved. Saved me from an expensive knee procedure...I have referred several good friends here and got all rave reviews. You get a dedicated 30 minute period one on one during each appointment ( following the longer initial intake) -The front office staff and management are amazing, friendly, caring, and on top of everything!I can totally rely on Evolve's therapists and staff for all my care. There's a full gym, a top notch acupuncturist, massage therapist, and facilities for laser treatments. The precautions they are taking now to treat patients during these challenging Covid times are great and I feel totally safe going to the clinic now.Highly recommend Evolve PT!I've Been a patient here for years and still getting follow-up care, and it's second to none in my book!
