It was very important for us as parents that we find the right person who understood the Kinesiology of a dancers body and their needs and it was imperative that not only she maintain a strong body for surgery but to have someone who would be there afterwards to help her regain the flexibility and strength, Allie was the exact person she needed. It was very important to our daughter and us that regain the skills that she had trained and developed for so many years in order to return to the world of dance. When we first reached out to Allie a month before surgery she was flexible with our schedule and willing to accommodate our unique situation, she even did her own homework and became well versed in our daughter's condition, its anatomy prior to surgery.Post 6 wks of surgery my daughter saw Allie 3 times a week, started with 30 minutes increments of mild gentle fluid movements that over time would only improve the flexibility. The movement of her chest/torso were now restricted by this Titanium steel bar that was surgically placed behind her Thoracic ribs inside and in front of her heart. Allie continued to help our daughter find a way to maintain and develop her new founding core strength to improve mobility and reduce pain. She also set up a new plan of action as now that the correction of the front of her chest had been taken care of it now had caused the major shift and curve in the spine (history of a VERY mild case of scoliosis prior to surgery) Her Orthopaedic Doctor and Thoracic surgeon suggested physical therapy would be the next step for our daughter and suggested she was cleared to so. We told him we had a very good personal trainer who worked with a PT and was better suited and familiar in the rehabilitation of dancers with combined resistance training, core strengthening and specific body motions with Gyrotonics.6 months forward now my daughter goes twice a weekly (1 hr each). Allie targets her recovery by having her do different exercises to improve the straightening of her back, working to correct the alignment of her body in these last six months. Our daughter has regained flexibility, strength and agility and has resumed Ballet again. Our daughter has increased her range of motion, she is more aware of what her body is capable of doing and has more endurance thanks to this particular training. Allie is a very positive person with great patience, she genuinely knows how to connect with these dancers that need encouragement when injured or recovering or just looking to improve and become better dancers. Every week there is something new that Allie corrects or improve in our daughter's technique that she then applies to her ballet class the following and others notice. Our daughter will continue to work with her on maintaining the newly found core strength that even her Ballet teachers have noticed and said“ She came back even stronger than before “or “ even her turns out's are better and her ability to balance is better”“ It doesn't even look like she had surgery “ per her Ballet Mistressbesides Allie helping her get back into the world of dance, we recently saw her Orthopaedic Doctor for the 6-month post-x-ray to her spine and he was very pleased and a bit surprised that the curve in her spine has improved so quickly and he said“ Its almost straight … it's just 6 months, continue what you are doing “In retrospect, we only wished we had known and started with Allie years ago. This could have helped our daughter become a much stronger dancer sooner by having that one person who teaches you how your muscles and body work together, what doesn't work or correct that bad habit you've been doing all along, to what does and makes you look like a solid dancer. We highly recommend Allie and we look forward to seeing our daughter continue on this journey with Allie help.
Planet Fitness
2200 Harbor Blvd, Costa Mesa, CA 92627, United States
I have been a member for awhile and its definitely worth the $10 a month, cleanliness is mostly a hit but sometimes a miss, staff is super friendly. I decided to cancel my membership today because they had an end of summer block party which sounds lovely but they have a ridiculous amount of food and catering in the gym, super unhealthy, super smelly. I just ate before my workout so for me its really about the inconvenience. In the ladies locker area however, there were a lot of women talking about how rude it is to have this going on during their workouts, because they are trying to hard to cut out bad foods (tacos, nachos aka exactly what they are cooking up in the gym) I just think it is so inconsiderate for gym goers to have hot food being wafted in their (and my) faces when all we came here to do is work out and not be subject to the shameless promotion of fast food restaurants and product placement (candy etc). Im sure some people enjoy it, but for some who are really struggling to put their health first - especially from a place which harps nonstop about fitness, putting yourself first etc.Total fail on the part of planet fitness, know your audience, maybe do some polling before hand to find out what your members appreciate. A banana would have been nice, but alas not one fruit or vegetable has made an appearance. In a nutshell: its hard enough for hard working men and women to come to the gym after a full day of work on a Monday, I would prefer getting a free bottle of water, complementary towel, or nothing at all if the alternative is to have my mood, and workout and for some, their health sabotaged by my own gym that pay to attend. This is not the service I signed up for and honestly it shows that planet fitness really doesnt have a clue about what actually does a body good.Time to switch up my workout routine and try some classes and maybe get outdoors. To those of you that enjoy the wafting smell of food in a poorly ventilated building while you are trying to get in your workout, this gym is definitely for you! Bon appetit! (I did only put one star but I changed it to two, because this is my personal opinion and there are probably some people out there who really do appreciate this- I have yet to meet one, but Im sure they are out there )

Sigh. This gym perfectly encapsulates all the stereotypes about how shallow and mean Southern Californians can be. There are a lot of people here obsessed with their image and are deeply self-centered and disappointing. I do not understand the point of “looking good” if you are ugly on the inside.I know this sounds harsh but I want to share a story:I was on the stair master earlier this month and it malfunctioned horribly. It went from 0 - 100 in a second, the emergency button was not working despite pressing it multiple times, and I fell really hard (with a nice injury on my leg now to prove it). No one came to help. The guy behind me with a front row seat to me falling and getting slammed on the ground just decided to continue his stretches. It was like I did not even exist. No one bothered to ask if I am okay. Listen, I am an NJ girl. In my homestate, people would get off their machine and lend a helping hand after seeing you get hurt that way I did. No questions asked. After shaking off the shock from falling, I wobbled all the way to front desk to let the person working there know that no one should go on that machine again until it is shut down and inspected because it is so dangerous. There should have been ZERO time wasted in doing that.Instead, multiple people tried to go on after me and I wobbled all the way back to help stop them. It took far too long for them to shut the machine down (anywhere between 30 - 60 minutes). That creates too much potential for more people getting hurt.I hope I have much better experiences at this gym. For now, it really represents what can make people feel very uneasy and uncomfortable about the culture of Southern California/the Newport area: the people here have a tendency to be far too inhumane and superficial. Some other notes:- The gym is unhygienic. Vast majority of people do not clean the equipment before or after using it.- Do not expect a gym culture of people helping each other out. It is more of a culture of being full of yourself (I feel sad to write this).- If you keep the above points in mind, and can work through harsh lighting, smells, and noise, the gym is okay. You can mostly get in, get your workout done, get out.

The atmosphere? Fantastic. The people? Super supportive and welcoming. The coaches? Incredibly energetic and supportive of your goals. This gym has been the push I needed to get back into working out with an intense mindset. I love the fact that the gym, and trainers, set up the space to pump you up for a deadly workout the moment you walk through the doors. The lasting impression this gym has made for me is that I feel more confident in my solo days at the gym when I miss a class. Thanks to the guidance of all the coaches at The Camp Costa Mesa, I've been able to push my body and improve my skills as a gym girlie.
9Round Kickboxing Fitness

I love coming to this 9round location. I started coming here back in September 2017. I had let myself go after a divorce and went back to yoga to get into shape. After going everyday and it not working, I was panicking. My body had changed and I was no longer able to drop weight and get into shape the way I used to. My coworker told me to come to 9Round and I am glad I did.9Round has CHANGED MY LIFE. Not only is it important to work out, it is a mindset of what choices you make each day with food. I was putting in the work but needed to make personal habit changes.Diesel, the manager, is a certified nutritionist and gave me a meal plan to follow. He also followed up with me about actually sticking to it. I was on my way. Then in March and April, there were March Madness and Project Me competitions. I WON SECOND PLACE EACH COMPETITION for losing body fat percentages. I lost 8 pounds and 1.7% body fat in March and 7.5 pounds and 2.7% body fat in April. I GAINED MUSCLE.All of a sudden, people noticed I had lost major weight in 60 days time. I went to get a massage and the lady asked me if I lift weights because she can tell with how defined my arms now are.9Round Costa Mesa off Baker motivated me to change my thinking and that translates over to body image. The best part is the class is 30 minutes. You walk in and they work you into the buzzer rounds. You do not get locked out for being late and there is no pressure to get anywhere before or after work on time. The atmosphere is like one big family. You will make friends with the members and trainers. Everyone goes out of their way to be friendly. The owner is a lady named Holly and she is amazing. The coaches walk around and show you each exercise.Diesel, Carlos, Ian and Olivia are amazing motivators. Before you know it, the 30 minutes is up. In fact, one member (Alfredo) who left to pursue MMA is now back as a trainer because he missed going there so much. He went from member to now coaching us with the skills and esteem he got from 9Round.We are all inspired and so happy to have such a positive outlet.I highly recommend 9Round as your workout choice. You can try it for free with loaner equipment and there is not a big pressuring pitch to join.If you want to change your life, all you have to do is show up for 30 minutes..........the choice is yours.
Trim Fitness Studio
2937 Bristol St a200, Costa Mesa, CA 92626, United States
Absolutely love Trim Fitness Studio! I have been gym hopping and trying different workouts in different gyms and I havent done a workout that I havent enjoyed (oh well, except three work outs in two different studios). What I like about the Trim that the classes are small at Trim and the quality of instructions are VERY high. So far, I have taken three Versa Climber (Ruth & Lindsay) and both have kicked my *** and Versa Climber is a real solid cardio work out that also work out your lats muscle and leg muscle for 30 minutes. The calorie burn on Versa is off the chart; 23-26 calorie/minute whereas the cycle spin is about 12-15 calorie/minute.I was skeptic on taking the Lagree which kind of look like pilate. However I think that almost everyone knows that Lagree is different than Pilate even though that it kind of look the same. For those who dont know, Lagree is a very effective workout and the Lagree machine is different than Pilate machine. After taking my first Lagree, I found out that Lagree is indeed a hard workout because it requires coordination and balance and one has to be really careful during the work out. My Lagree instructor at Trim, Amanda Alper made the class really useful for me. Amanda was constantly monitoring me and for someone like me who cant chew gum and walk, Amanda helped me through the coordination of this workout during the entire class. All I can say is that I have found out Lagree is a very tiring workout and my calorie burn is always close to 450 calorie for 45 minus.
24 Hour Fitness

A few key points for first-timers:1. Parking - all of the parking is paid. The gym will validate (up to 3 hours) before 6 PM. After 6 PM, parking is free. Park as close to the facility as possible—the parking garage across the street does not making walking here easy.2. Sauna and Steam room - these are co-ed, so a bit different than ones found in each locker room. As such, you are expected to at least wear a swimsuit, but you'll find people completely dressed in there (e.g., socks, shoes, pants/shorts, shirt).3. Pool and hot tub - the hot tub is outdoors, and the indoor pool has 3 lanes.4. Gym areas/floors - based on my walk around, the 3 floors of the gym provide different equipment. Cardio only equipment is on the first floor. Second floor includes free weights, several benches, cables, lots of machines, and a “turf” area where you can do exercises like lunches, box jumps, etc. note, however, that there is not a mirror adjacent to the turf area, so if you want/need to watch your form on certain exercises, this area doesn't work well for that. The third floor is group fitness / open wood flooring.5. Free weights - Most of the dumbbells are also misplaced (I.e., not in numerical order nor are all dumbbells next to their pair). There are a LOT of them, though, so that's nice.6. Cleanliness - nothing seemed crazy dirty to me, but the 2nd floor didn't have ANY paper towels or wipes to wipe down equipment after use. They should ensure the paper towels are stocked and provide spray bottles of cleaner (currently there are dispensers that likely dispense hand sanitizer, which isn't super helpful, especially if there are no paper towels).7. Locker room - it's a bit maze-like (at least the men's locker room), but that's no biggie. They don't have paper towels, so if you need to blow your nose, you'll need to use one of the stalls and grab some toilet paper. The showers have VERY strong water pressure, which feels great, but drainage isn't fast enough, so there's ~1/2 inch of water in the shower stall area. Most lockers require your own lock, but some have the ability to just set your own code to use during your time at the gym.Hope this helps anyone looking into this facility!
AIM Fitness

So definitely thought I would share just my overall experience with AIM fitness. So before I met coach jake and his wife and team I was literally just a mess. Was going through one of the toughest times in my life with work, personal life stuff and just confidence issues. I used to train at a place in LA and it was super cool but when I moved back to OC I had no other means of training unless I went to you normal”planet fitness gyms” (which by the way is no bueno). So with just trying to find a way to escape out of my depression I was looking up local gyms near my area and came across AIM fitness. Now when it comes to gyms I always make sure to do my research before I decide to take on a commitment anywhere! So when I researched the background on the gym and staff I saw the coach Jake was from usc and did a lot of strength and performance base training with high end athletes so me being a kendo swordsman/athlete decided well why not give it a try. Let me tell you THE BEST FREAKIN DECISION I HAVE EVER MADE! Not only does coach Jake and his team provide you with elite workouts that get you sore as heck( and I mean sore were you like heck yeah bout to get these gains but there set up is super dope and it's a family base gym where he incorporates proper form, accountability, and he is a Kinesiologist/ pero man e athlete who knows how to get younger results you need and the atmosphere is fun ohh and there playlist be off the chain too haha! If you want rap you'll get rap if you want country you'll get country if you want turn up where we bout to do work then you'll get that too! All in all I was in my lowest times and Jake gave me a home to feel like family him and all the athletes there. Please guys GO GO GO!! Check them out and I promise you are gonna love this place bet that!!! Appreciate Jake and the AIM FITNESS TEAM!??
24 Hour Fitness
555 W 19th St, Costa Mesa, CA 92627, United States
I recently attended several yoga classes led by Roda, and I must admit that my experience was quite frustrating and disappointing. I feel compelled to share my thoughts and observations about her teaching style as I believe its important for prospective students to have an honest perspective. One of the most significant issues I encountered in Rodas class was her condescending attitude and her tendency to make rude statements towards students. Yoga is supposed to be a welcoming and inclusive practice, and its disheartening to see a teacher who fails to embrace these principles. Its essential to remember that not all students are at the same skill level or have the same physical capabilities. Some students may have health issues that prevent them from executing poses perfectly, and its the responsibility of the yoga teacher to create an environment where everyone feels supported and encouraged.Unfortunately, in Rodas class, I noticed a lack of empathy and understanding when it came to students who faced challenges due to health issues or language barriers. For instance, some students, may not be fluent in English and rely on visual cues to imitate the poses accurately. Instead of accommodating such students, Roda was overly controlling and discouraged students from looking around to correct their poses. This created a sense of discomfort and inadequacy among those who needed visual guidance.Furthermore, Rodas verbal instructions were often incomplete, which added to the frustration of students who were struggling to follow along. Its crucial for a yoga teacher to provide clear and concise guidance to ensure the safety and effectiveness of the practice. Incomplete instructions not only hindered the learning process but also raised concerns about the potential for injuries during the class. In summary, my experience with yoga teacher Roda left me feeling disheartened and frustrated. Her condescending attitude, lack of empathy towards students with health issues or language barriers, and incomplete instructions made it challenging to enjoy and benefit from her classes. Yoga is meant to be an inclusive and nurturing practice, and I hope that Roda can reflect on her teaching methods and make the necessary adjustments to create a more welcoming and supportive environment for all students.
The Smart Fit Method
2675 Irvine Ave suite e, Costa Mesa, CA 92627, United States
I have been a member at SmartFit Costa Mesa since it opened. This is the perfect place for our family to stay fit and to be part of a great community. I'm 70 so my main goal is to hang on to my muscles and in fact I've gained additional muscles. My special needs adult son also attends and the staff is so wonderful with him and they keep him active. He's never been in better shape and this is such a great solution for him since he hates to exercise. But here it's quick and fun. Extremely easy to do business with, caring and friendly staff that at this point are almost an extension of our family, and a great workout in minimum time. What's not to love! Highly recommend. Stop in and see Kamela and the team today!
