Comment: This review is for ALFREDO who teaches LATIN CARDIO at this location NO NOT ZUMBA but 1000 times better! His dance class is not only really FUN but the BEST way to do an hour cardio without feeling like its an hour long - I legit cant believe how fast the time goes and everyone comes out SOAKED in real sweat. Im so thankful I found his class and cannot find a better motivation and loving fitness instructor out there! Hes my only reason I had Golds gym and will follow this man anywhere he teaches :Hollywood and Glendale as well! Thank you Alfredo for keeping my body and mind rightDont forget to Pose!

Comment: The service from the gym employees is not the greatest. The teachers are good in the classes. There should be employees monitoring the pool, sauna and steam room. Members have been seen peeing on the bench in the steam room. Members do not know how to respect the lanes in the pool when another member is using it. If there was an employee monitoring this, then there wouldnt be any issues of members pushing other members out of the lane theyre swimming in. There was poop on the floor of the shower as well. Certain members should have their membership taken away for these instances, but they dont because the gym employees look the other way making it an uncomfortable, unsafe and unsanitary environment for all members.

I swear one time I heard one of them sigh really loud at me & my buddies coming in. Very unacceptable! MICHELlE signed me up and told me it’s a 100 and I’ll add 3 training sessions which she never mentioned that was optional so if I didn’t do the 3 training sessions it would have just been 1 dollar for the first month

Comment: I think it’s time to teach business etiquette in college again! The girl Laura at this location does not have any people Skills at all! When I asked if I can speak to a manager she asked me what for, when I said billing she laughed sneeringly and was very condescending. I am actually really thinking of quitting my membership due to managers not training staff properly.This location has 0 regards for members and customer service skills. While the location in Hollywood, they have no idea how to navigate computers and when you tell them why don’t they know how to do thier job, the managers instead of correcting the problem they confront the member on why we hurt the staff’s feelings.0% accountability! I heard crunch does a better job or Planet Fitness even!

You have to do it in person first where they give you a code and then they give you a website to a payment processing company to make a profile to cancel on your own, that companies login is disabled and not functioning. Comment: This is the first of two reviews, Ill post.I want to give a shout out to the owner about some of his outstanding friendly, helpful staff members-who I dont know by name despite they know mine (since they see it when I check in) who always are working hard with the many customers that frequent here in the evenings, the day part that I attend for more availability with less people for what I primarily use (pool, sauna, jacuzzi, cycling machines) due to an unfortunate set of injuries Im rehabbing.Ive been a member for several years and the front of the house staff is superior to most that worked here before Covid. Ive read the reviews complaining about the cleanliness and I think that may be more a function of the changing demographics of DTLAs current customer base and the socio-economic context of recent customers that may only be transitioning through trial memberships either because of budgetary considerations or responding to introductory offers. I think the maintenance staff at night and night management try their best but a lot new clients seem to lack education and the manners not to create overwhelming issues for the maintenance staff.Be that as it may, there are serious infrastructure maintenance issues that the owner is responsible for like how long it takes for things that break down to be replaced instead of repaired temporarily. Sauna goes out and then takes a long time to repair, hair dryers have not been repaired, the water-extractor for swimsuits has not been replaced and use to breakdown regularly.Im giving only three stars because they often lack towels, paint is chipped away from decaying walls near the jacuzzi and stuff has fallen to the ground from the ceiling above that area and they take too long to repair things or replace constantly breaking down elements of their amenities and that for which we clients come to Golds for.The saving grace from less stars is their staff, whose names I wil l get so they get credited for their grace.

After every class it would be really appreciated if they would wipe the studio floor. It can get really sticky in between classes and also slippery in some areas due to sweat, which can become a safety issue.

Comment: Overall, a great place for self care. There are minor issues in the facility. In the women’s dressing room, I would rate the showers 3 stars. I understand the gym can get a bit busy but they are not as clean as they should be. Most of the time people leave behind trash. The sauna & steam room are most of the time under repair. The sound system in the studio room lacks as well. Sometimes you can hear the music through one speaker as opposed to all 4 in the space.

What’s great too is before his class or after you can get an incredible workout through the new barbell suites they now have. Comment: Toxic Thieves: I signed up for training with someone claimgin to be a trainer who knew a modality Im interested in. We sat down with the GM to do this. I travel quite a bit and attempted to schedule 6 weeks later. I am told that he wasnt a trainer and him and the GM are no longer with the company. Fast forward 10 months later. They have had 4 different GMs and 2 different fitness managers. I have been apologized top high heaven by each of them that they would credit my membership. Not only has it not happened but everytime I reinquire it takes 1 - 2 weeks to get the GM on the phone. I sent this story to my 400 fitness contacts as Im in the industry. Cant believe they would absorb this much bad reputation over $100. What a piss poor management mindset.

Comment: I joined because there was a $2 special, it was close to my place, and the Golds Gym reputation.Ill start with the bad so we can end on a good note.1. I always have had to wait to use equipment. Even at 1:15pm. A couple of times Ive asked to work in and have either been ignored or told no. When I decided to do alternate exercises, those pieces were in use, too. This has happened every time Ive been there.2. The place always seems a little messy.3. Members do not rerack.4. You do not get access to the Venice location. That is under different owners and if you want to go there, you have to buy a $100 month membership for that location in addition to the $60 a month membership for all the other Golds Gym SoCal locations.5. I always thought of Golds Gym as being a cut above the rest, but I have had much lower-cost memberships that offer more in terms of community, classes, and access to equipment.6. Very few classes to choose from. I like to work in cardio for dance and yoga in addition to weight lifting and there really isnt much to choose from here.7. The app doesnt work properly. I went to schedule a cardio class and got a 404 error in the app.8. The website is confusing and doesnt function very well.The good, and the only reasons it doesnt get 1 star:1. The staff are friendly2. The location is perfect if you live or work downtown.

It’s dirty, crowded, water was gushing from a pipe in the ceiling, no private area for members paying extra, staff always seem upset / angry. Tripods were allowed. Parking structure reminds you how unsafe it is. Honestly this place is just ghetto. Probably ruining Golds Gym’s image. I’d close and let some Planet Fitness take over, that’s what it felt like.

Comment: I have been a member of this Golds gym for many years. The main reasons I like this gym are the pool, sauna, hot tub, and steam room. These features are especially helpful for me as I am rehabilitating from a temporary disability caused by a car accident.Unfortunately, when I arrived at the gym this morning, they had put up a sign that said no hot water. That meant that I would be taking an ice cold shower after my workout. Even worse, the hot tub and sauna were not functioning. I asked the employees at the front desk when the problems would be repaired and they could give me no definitive answer other than if you come tomorrow, be prepared for more of the same.Now I understand that things happen and problems arise. That said, I do not understand why the members of the gym are not informed about such issues. How difficult would it be for a Golds employee to send a mass email out to the gym members when problems like this occur? Then we could plan accordingly.I like this gym for its amenities, but the management here should really care more about their members.

Very dysfunctional too is that only one has massage beds, tall lockers, towel service, some dont have pool or jacuzzi or steam room or juice bar, or etc, etc, etc. Utterly ridiculous. Its bad enough Daniel is ripping me off by charging $60 without nationwide membership and without supplying all of the things listed on the left of the sales sheet under gold membership/$60. Him charging me $1 to join under what he claimed is a 12 Days Of Christmas promotion, and telling me hes auto-debiting my bank account via routing number come month 2 then an annual overpriced membership fee come February...... Not acceptable. I should be discounted and the annual fee waived. Period. And there should be no invasive auto-pay. So Im continuing to clear my account out to $2 available balance on that account at the top of each month as Ive been doing prior to this gym membership anyway.Protect your money, people. When I signed up over the phone I was told a staff member would walk through the gym to show me the equipment and on my first day I asked and the employee did not leave the counter or explain where any of the equipment was. He barely gave me directions to the pool, which didnt make sense. So, Ive been winging my way throughout some of the amenities on my own. In addition, the front desk staff is rude and seem super bothered when they are asked for towels or when they need to assist with the scanner. It was malfunctioning, and the person behind the counter kept his back turned towards us for several minutes before addressing the issue so we may enter the gym. There were 3 members in addition to me trying to enter. Im disappointed with the customer service provided.

Comment: Almost every time I come in the mornings the bathrooms are trashed and dirty while the cleaning worker, Ruth, does nothing to fix this instead I always seem to find her talking loudly on her phone or talking with members. Its extremely disappointing because we are charged cleaning fees as members, yet there seems to be no cleaning done when I come in the mornings. I am pretty sure the worker is aware of the unclean state of the bathrooms yet she continues to treat the workplace as a gossip ground. It would be appreciated if the bathrooms were kept sanitary and clean instead of finding the worker constantly talking on her phone, talking with members, or walking around with her tablet. I dont understand how nothing has been done about this despite other members complaining about this behavior.

In the hot summer it goes out for weeks making inside temp in the high 80s and now in the winter it is constantly not working. The stink of sweat, body heat and moisture is disgusting. The place is always packed like sardines so imagine the stench and heat inside when the AC doesnt work. What a shame for a place that used to be pleasant. Complaining to management does nothing.

Comment: False Advertising! Im in LA for work and I wanted to go to a gym, I searched online and found a 7 day free trial with this gym. Ive never used them before, I signed up and a Aaron from the gym called. He mentions that I need to show proof of residence or that my work is located here. First off, this proof of residence is nowhere on the website (if it is there now, it hasnt only just been added). I clicked into the T&C of the 7 day pass and no proof of residence requirement. I tell Aaron that Im visiting for work, he asks if my company is located here and if I have any proof, I said yes and I have my work email, he would be able to look up my company. He then says okay and asks me to come in. I come in and they get me to sign a form, then Aaron came I showed him my work email, he verified online that my office is in LA. He then directs me to the manager who then tells me that I have to be a resident or pay $40 for a day pass. What a joke! Literally wasted my time, even though I told you guys what I have, why make me come all the way? And to make it worst the residence thing isnt on their website. I would stay away from this dodgy gym. Funny this is Im planning to move to LA, I certainly wont be coming here.

Comment: Stay away from this place. The service managers are scamming people left and right. Tried to sign up for a 7day pass, went there, the person who made the appointment had already left, so I had to wait for 30-45mins. Then another manager tries to sell me the membership, while I’m there to try out the gym, see the amenities, and how crowded the gym is. Then after 30 mins of declining to sign the contract, the manger (who started giving me attitude) finally tells me that I can have a 3 day free trial (instead of 7days), which didn’t work the next day anymore. It’s just a scam! For the same money, you can def find a better place!

Comment: On the 28th of last month, I made a couple purchases from the Los Angeles location. Daniel, the manager and Brandon WI theyre ring me up, check the transaction and then go through. Even though I just placed the transaction and it went through his tent minutes prior they said the second one didnt even though Ive signed for the second 1 as well, and instead of proved my bank. So Im very at home, my check. And yes, the transaction went through. They still say that there was no contaction going through Daniel and Brandon are liars. He tried to lie to me the manager did Daniel? He said there was a power shirt. He didnt know I was recording him. But he tried to deny that I suspected. They were stealing taking stuff home. So if theres other people experiencing this, dont just stay in the shadows. Thieves need their hands chopped off. Especially stealing from somebody who has the epilepsy their whole life.

Comment: We signed up for the day pass to try out the gym as we are relocating to downtown however the manager who called me to welcome me to come use the pass failed to mention that you need to be a resident of the area to use the Free Guess Pass or else pay $40 or $80. When leaving it came to my knowledge that the manager Aaron asked my cousin who walked in before me if she was “working out while her boyfriend was shopping?” had actually attempted to flirt with her before I walked in & as a result of her not being interested he then made it an issue for us to use our day pass. Why else would he not have told me on the phone that I could not use my guest pass without proof of residency. Very unfortunate.

Comment: On the surface, it looks like a nice gym. But the moment you start using it, you realized its a very poorly maintained gym. The dumbbells are all over the place and many are damaged. The benches are also worn out. Much of the equipment are rusted and you can feel the rust when using them, especially in pulley and cable machines. Even the plates are rusted, making it really rough to slide plates on and off the barbell. Would have expected more from a golds gym.

Comment: I started going 3 months ago. The employee here only wanted auto pay, so I had no choice but to do it. However, there were too many people, the equipment was difficult to use, and there were not many equipment, so I said I wanted to cancel and they gave me the phone number for Customer center. But it was not easy to cancel because the connection was not easy. I asked the manager several times about when to cancel, and the manager said he could do it as soon as I told him, but I couldnt cancel.

With the exception of the Caucasian gentleman in the front with the glasses.It is labor day weekend and I walk into the same place Ive been walking into everyday for the past 6 months. I walk in, buy my preworkout, proceed to check in at entrance. Go through, and Im stopped by an employee saying my payment is overdue by one day. I live approximately 22 miles from where I work but this gym is right across the street which is why I use it. I let them know I dont have my credit card on me, can I pay it tomorrow with another card.I say this because Im guess the bank is still processing my deposit since its a holiday weekend. To be honest, Im not really sure what had happened because Ive had issues with them processing my payment because I switched from a previous club. I was not let in.I talk with Sandra which who I guess is the supervisor at the time and she says the same thing. Then says we can try running it again. She does that, yells out from the front desk while Im near the door,It went through! Youre good to go!!. I stand up and start walking over and then she yells,Wait nevermind. It only approved $16. Im not sure where this is appropriate so now Im embarrassed twice for a day late payment, but they took a partial payment and was still not let in for the day.I go to my car to get my parking ticket, I come back to return the unopened preworkout to be told Im not going to be given a refund and that all sales are final but there is no sign saying that.This is disgusting, highly inappropriate, and some of the most lack luster customer service Ive ever received. Where is Marcus? When I had an issue previously in regards to my card, his customer service was great and it made me stay at that club for the past 6 months. If I wanted to pay for me monthly bill Im just golds gym points I could at this very moment. However, nothing about this experience today has made me feel like Im valued as a customer here at this facility.I would love to tell you about some of the great things Ive experienced there previously but I cant stomach todays unpleasant encounter. Ive never experienced someone in a leadership role discuss financial matters across 30-40 feet and yelling it out. Not ok at all. Comment: I like this gym, I’ve always have. Would I rather go to planet, 24 hr? No! I’ve tried those gyms and I had to come back to golds gym DTLA. The of this gym is centered to where I live and my place of work, besides the great location I love that they provide towel service, I appreciate the atmosphere, I appreciate the pool, I love the jacuzzi, I love the steam room and sauna, I love the showers. Sure, some stuff it’s broken but I’m sure they’ll get around to fix it, it does take a while to get things fixed but as a manager role or perspective I totally understand how hard it is to get things fixed sometimes so I’m patient with golds. The blow dryers haven’t been working for weeks now so I just bring my own.They one time I had a fit was when they were limiting one towel per person I did complained and i felt terrible about it almost immediately— and now the staff doesn’t say hi to me. It turns out some guest were stealing the towels so they limited to one towel for a while — now they went back to providing more than one towel and I’m grateful — I really appreciate it. Overall I like this gym and location.

Comment: Horrible. They put me into collections twice when I had asked to put my account on hold as I was going overseas which they never did and came back to crazy charges and collections. Roped me into paying for another 6 months as a ‘clean slate’ when I told them I wanted to leave. Staff are rude, unhelpful. Jacuzzi is always broken. Just unclean throughout. Always packed. Changing rooms allow men pretending to be women to walk in at any time. SO uncomfortable. Worst gym I’ve ever been to. I used to be a PT, this is a sorry excuse for a community of people in fitness and wellbeing, it should be a positive experience for people trying to elevate their lives but instead it just makes you mad. Waste of money time and effort. Don’t bother.

Comment: I wish there was an option for zero stars.First, when I wanted to work out with a friend and signed up for the 7-day pass, the front desk employee said they couldn’t grant me the free trial because my legal residential address isn’t based in Los Angeles, even though my current address and all of my other legal documents are based on LA.Second, after that dissatisfying encounter, they navigated me to member service where, this employee, tried to hustle me into signing up for a membership. He tried to “cut” me a deal by saying initiation would only be $1, but I would NEED to sign up for a personal training program to receive the initiation discount.After we argued for 15 minutes and the employee waived the personal training course, this location is ALWAYS SO BUSY AND CROWDED AND FILTHY..some customers don’t sanitize for the next person!!!And the final turn off: cancellation. Gold’s told me that they don’t do cancellations in person, so I would have to call. When I did, the automated system was absolutely horrendous. And after I was able to get an agent on the line, the agent practically spoke little to no English, making our conversation longer than it had to be so I can explain in detail. And when I told them to cancel my member effective immediately, I was informed that it was in the gold’s policy there was a 30 day cancellation policy, so I would be charged for another month for NO REASON! I will never ever in my life come to Gold’s fraud gym ever in my lifetime.

Comment: (The not many) Pros:- Machines are repaired fairly quickly unlike other gyms and maintained pretty well except for rust but I think that’s the old gym aesthetic they’re going for.- Decent variety of machines other than half the gym being cardio.- Cool pool area and other amenities.Cons:- People up front aren’t very welcoming, even by gym standards.- Expect to wait all the time because it’s always crowded.- Found a cockroach in the Men’s Locker scurrying past my feet as I was changing-If you thought it couldn’t get any worse, the ceiling is literally leaking in several places and will get you wet while working out (staff know and don’t care)

Comment: I wish I could give this place zero stars. I went with my friend to this gym as he had a free guest pass and I wanted to try out the gym before I commit to a membership. So I went there and I had to wait over an hour to speak with a fitness consultant, tour the place with them and try to be convinced to buy a membership before I have even worked out in the place. Also during the tour the fitness consultant had a very demeaning and condescending attitude. I eventually got in using the guest pass and it wasnt much better when I was in there. Half the machines I used were either horrible or partially broken and barely usable, the dumbbell section is very much lacking and was always disorganized making it hard to find the weight I needed if it wasnt already taken. And the place is very cramped and crowded, machines and benches way to close to each other. The gym has nice amenities but the weight and lifting areas are atrocious. I would rather go to a planet fitness or other commercial gym then go here. Do not waste your time or money going to this place.

Comment: I must say it was not what I expected. After reading such negative reviews I expected the worst. However my first-time experience was so much better. The young lady and man at the front desk were helpful. I told them I was a member of Golds in La Mirada and the young lady asked me if I knew that I have 14 visits within the year. I told her no but I just remembered someone told me that on the phone. I just forgot.I had no trouble finding a treadmill and the stretching area was a little crowded but I was able to get my stretching done with no problems.All in all my first experience at Golds Dtla was pleasurable. I’ll do a new review when I go during the week.

Cliff Johnson went out of his way to guide me through my inbody scan. we went over the last three times I have had my body scanned and he took the time to explain where I am going wrong and what I could do to improve. He is an all star employee and not so bad on the eyes! he didn’t need to help me as he was busy as all hell but he still did. Thanks cliff!!! Also, I must say the gym renovation is pretty great. I’ve been going here the last 8 years and lot of improvements.

Comment: Gym is OK but its ALWAYS crowded, no matter what time of the day you go. Ive tried early morning, early afternoon, late evening and I always have to wait for machines. One time I even had to wait for cardio equipment. A/C hasnt been working well so the air is a bit stuffy. People dont re-rack their weights so its always messy. Machines are under maintenance constantly.Personal trainers and front desk staff are cool so thats nice. If you dont mind a dirty crowded gym and extending your workout time because of waiting for machines, this gym is fine.Ive been a member since March so maybe they are going through a rough patch but seems like its just getting worse. Certainly not what you would expect from a Golds Gym.

Comment: Reading some of the reviews, I can vouch for many of the mentioned issues Gold’s Gym has had.My biggest complaints are though it appears they’ve spent a lot of money renovating, (1) they didn’t allocate any funds to update the plumbing. If you’re like me and like to shower prior to heading home, get ready for shower heads that are weak. Further, if you go during a peak time, get ready to wait in line as the weak flow increases shower times. (2) It looks like the hot tub and pool areas were not even touched throughout the renovation. (3) The water fountain in the pool area still gives off an electrical charge, so get ready to get a little shock if you’re thirsty!Good:They’ve significantly increased the number of squat racks which is a godsend as they only had a handful before (approximately 2-3).I’ve been a member for over 6 years. If it weren’t for the proximity to my home, I would probably have given up my membership long ago. If you need a gym and are in close proximity to the gym, it will serve your basic gym needs. Towel service is a big plus if you get the membership that includes it. Asides from that, I can’t in good conscience highly recommend this gym.

Comment: On this current review that I am giving compares last year, I give this gym one star because long renovation of ladies locker (which began in March) until the locker room reopens but the wifi was worst. Then just today, I encountered with a rude man who is wearing wireless headphones and is still working out on another machine (assisted chin/ dip machine comes to my cable crossover machine and spoke at me, impolite, I said, “ Im the first one come to this equipment before you “ instead of be nice, he says thing to me says, “you are out control “ but this man ignores it because he was wearing headphone. I troll metal equipment on the floor due to feeling upset in what the man did on me.The trainer came up to me and defense the rude member instead of helping. Im very upset about this and the manager comes and tell me that I am banned at this and told cancel the membership in this location after making decision by investigating this situation. Its unfair. I like to participate in their offered classes and use the strength and cardio equipment.This gym has been declining for the past few months. IIts dirty, its very crowded, the AC doesnt work. The pool does not get cleaned,I really like to use the pool, however I have not done so for the past month. The water is very cloudy and dirty...It does not appear they are on top of cleaning their poor. This is the only issue that I have with this location.Hopefully management will get on top of it.

Comment: Where do I even begin.1. Equipment scattered everywhere and impossible to find. There’s no one around to re-rack weights. Also a culture of leave-s***-everywhere. I spend half my time just scavenging for whatever I can find.2. The single most packed gym I have ever been to. Coming from someone who has been working out 10+ years and used countless gyms.3. Bench press/squat bar weights are inconsistent. Rather then being 45lbs across the board like at every other gym I’ve been to, the bar weight/size vary depending on which you get. If I’m on the bench, and I put (for example) 45lb plates on each side, I should reasonably be allowed to expect to be pushing the same weight each time. But not here.4. It’s unreasonably hot and humid. They set up makeshift fans around the gym. This hasn’t stopped every person in the gym from being absolutely drenched in sweat after 15 minutes of working out. I can feel myself struggling to breath as soon as I walk in.5. General failure of maintenance/cleanliness. From the trash strewn about to all the machines regularly breaking down, I can’t go a single day without feeling like I’m watching a sinking ship.6. There is no service in there, and their Wi-Fi is down constantly, so you can’t eve. listen to your music

Comment: The air conditioner at Golds Gym in dtla has been out for almost a month. It is so hotttt and awful in there. Feels like the gates of hell have opened up as soon as you walk in. And they still havent fixed it. All they have is 2 small fans in the classroom. That literally does nothing. Heat is too extreme. I just joined another gym short-term to do my work outs in air. I really hope when I come back, they have the air fixed in there. Shame on the owners for not getting this fixed asap. Members should def be getting a discounted rate for all the months we come in there and work out in that hot box hell. All I can say is shame on them. Its really sad. Dont go there unless u want to feel like your in a sauna the whole time. So bad.

Comment: I’ve been coming to this gym for years, but in the past couple of months the quality has seriously been declining. There’s always something that isn’t working here. The bathrooms are literally falling apart, yes they’re renovating but at least fix the sinks/toilets that are available. There tends to be poor cleanliness in the bathroom and toilet paper and liner are often out. The AC does not work and feels very hot and humid. Who can work out like that? Especially when the gym is packed. The gym has been increasingly crowded to the point that there’s no available equipment. I walked out recently because there was literally no machines or benches open. If you’re considering getting a membership here, think again. Or at least wait until everything is renovated/fixed. I hope I can update this if things get better.

Comment: This is what I consider to be a yuppie gym, or a softy gym for people that have a lackadaisical attitude towards athletics and life in general. It is okay for moderate physical goals. But if you like to bang your head on the lockers before you hit the iron. This aint the place for you! If you got to scream and yell to complete your routine. This aint the place for you. If you grew up fist fighting just to make the team this aint the place for you. If trained with Olympic Gold Medalists and World Champions youre going to feel out of place at Golds Gym. If youre striving to reach the Outer Limits go to another gym. If you want to gossip on your smart phone, lollygag and doddle and get in peoples way trying to seriously workout, Golds Gym is the perfect place for you. This taking all this in consideration, its not the management or the facilities that deserve any demerits, Its just the typical Judeo-Christian yuppie type of attitude thats bad about Golds Gym

Comment: The gym has gone through some renovations with their locker rooms. The men’s steam room works half the time. Showers are not that bad. When it comes to workout equipment, they’re not that bad though some are in desperate need of regular repairs and maintenance. If you like indoor cycling, good luck! They have 4 bikes that are falling apart and the most of their indoor cycling bikes are locked up in a room that can only be accessible during their cycling courses that are mediocre at best. Other group exercises are ok though after several years remain the same classes with little to no change. Staff are somewhat friendly. Towels are stained at time after they’ve been washed. Overall, 5 out of 10. For the $50.00 monthly membership, you can definitely go to a better gym if willing to pay more in Downtown.

Comment: Honesty, if I could give this place 0 stars I would. Their payment system is absolutely trash. Every month I have another issue with automatic payments. I tried to cancel a tanning package three months ago and still get charged. No one really knows what’s going on or the processes. Tried to cancel again today but was told there is no manage on staff over the weekends that can help and to come in during the week. Just save yourself a headache and go to another gym.

Comment: I got into an accident and called in to cancel my remaining personal training sessions as my doctor advised on not training for awhile. I called in literally more than 10 times for the past month and the staff keeps on saying they’ll get back to me but no one did. I called in to follow up with my refund and still haven’t gotten a response. The staffs are nice but honestly i feel like i’ve been ripped off. I have almost $2000 that I need a refund and a month has passed and still haven’t got my refund.

Comment: Golds Gym is doing a major upgrade right now. Currently, the mens showers are available but theres no place to lock up your stuff. Its a temporary inconvenience. As far as the equipment, they made major upgrades in their cardio equipment, including the latest model Freemotion treadmills and Matrix cardio equipment. The weight equipment is much better than it used to be, and they added another Hammer Strength plated leg press machine. Ive been going to this gym on average about once a week and I really like it.

Comment: Golds is an excellent gym for a corporate chain.I was at 24 hour fitness for a long time and golds is far superior.Excellent equipment and specialized items that you will never find normally in a corporate gym.Clean and tidy.There has been several changes and upgrades they are clearly aware of what people like and what people use moving things around changing sections which is good I like the new astroturf section gives people space to stretch and do other exercises as the boxing ring was never used.

Comment: A bit frustrating to go and the mens locker room be under total renovation. They have a make shift locker room without any lockers. There are showers and sauna. So plan on going gym ready and leaving that unless you like dragging your belongings around. Also very little regard to handicap people as there were no floor mats in the locker room. The floor was very wet.

Comment: Honestly speaking the facility is dope and the staff is great. The environment is so anti black. I have had several racist incidents at this location with other members of the gym and it’s insane. I have literally been looked at in disgust and someone even used the N word earlier today and I feel so helpless. I have mentioned these things to front desk but nothing has changed. I get that they can’t change a persons mind or behaviors but the thought that this behavior is allowed will cause me to cancel my membership.

Comment: I just signed up today, cool gym. The staff (Mercedes) was very friendly & professional, her Manager (Marcus) seems like he cares about the gym and clients. Most all of the staff seems helpful.Place was clean, equipment works, wet & dry sauna, etc. quality gym & amenities for the price. they’re also adding a turf area, punching bags and more squat racks. Ill update my review if things change, otherwise great spot!

Comment: Please avoid this location gym at all cost. The associates intentionally prey on customer with unethical marketing tactics to lure you in registration. If you decide to cancel membership because of misleading marketing information, they inform their location cannot make cancelation. You are transfers in loops to multiple locations attempting to reach an Reginal Manager. Because the GM Marcus Neal of that location will give false information to shift the blame elsewhere and Ben Anzaldo do not respond to emails, which is the only form of communication with him. This company predatory practices on customers. The staff refuse to give the company legal registration name to avoid lawsuit. The company operate under Los Angeles Corporate Fitness, INC dba Golds Gym. They will not provide this information to avoid accountability of misleading advertisement.

I’ve been to gyms where I felt super uncomfortable because the staff made the environment unwelcoming. Honestly I love it here. I provided the proper cancellation notice during the pandemic but it is not being accepted.Now Gold’s is trying to charge me for 3 months of membership dues saying, “CANCELLATIONS DURING THE PANDEMIC DO NOT COUNT.”As per the agreement, I fulfilled the year long contract and provided sufficient notice for cancellation.The 3 months of “owed dues” is Gold’s trying to gouge me for dues between January - February 2021 despite my last visit being March 2020 and cancellation of membership provided April 2020.Now Gold’s is threatening collections of which they will likely sell the debt to a third party and collect SOME money off of while impacting my credit.These are VERY DIRTY tactics used by a desperate company who had MULTIPLE locations declare bankruptcy during the pandemic!I will continue to fight Gold’s on this issue and let this be a warning to new customers that this place isn’t as welcoming as you may think in my personal opinion.Based on my experience, they’re VERY money-desperate and are willing to tarnish their relationships with members to collect pennies.Marco cannot be trusted. Comment: Long time member of this club. As of October, 2021, the Gold’s Gym in DTLA is still not enforcing the LA County mask mandate. (Many members work out without masks.) I was told by management that masks are optional. This is irresponsible, dangerous, and illegal. They over charged me $440 for a personal training and even though the General Manager AJ was essentially “cooperative” with trying to get my refund back nothing has yet to happen. I have been hounding them for 5 actual months. The only reason why I have kept my membership open is in hopes they refund me my money. The gym itself is basic nothing special to it. The personal training so such a waste of time and more importantly money. They tell you to jump on machines like you don’t already know how to do that. They classes they offer are at such inconvenient times. It’s was so wack I stopped the training. So they owe me like 14 sessions which of course I will not be getting a refund either because they are thieves. I have to take them to small claims courts to try and get my money back. Comment: Overall upkeep and maintenance at golds DTLA sucks..TVs usually don’t work on machines, internet/WiFi weak- Texts/calls won’t go through. Always out of paper towels and hand sanitizer too! Put more Hand sanitizers dispensers! - the few dispensers they have are in inconvenient locations. The few stairmasters they have (maybe 4 or 5), always down or always occupied. In 8 years I’ve never been able to get on one.

I love the amenities, clean womens locker room great classes over here. my mind need to find a good environment without drama. The studio was clean to. Its classy gym. The management staff were nicer. I will workout more often. By the way, 2 years ago, I have gone to Santa Monica blvd gold’s gym has respectable staff and I love how respect their members. When LA county briefly dipped into a less restrictive tier last year (late-2020) the gym began to automatically charge without even notifying any of the members that they had reopened, they opened an outdoor area that was packed with people and few masks. Gold’s will claim they they called and emailed people but they did not (and the only way to check that they were open was to follow them on Facebook, which I do not have or use). When the first charge went through to my credit card I called the gym and asked them what my options were as I would not be returning to the gym since I don’t live in the area and am working from home and no longer in the Downtown LA area, and they had an automated to contact the retention team.The retention team is a joke, you email them and they “provide you with a freeze” for 3 months. My first freeze only lasted a month because immediately after the gym reopened LA County reentered the “purple” phase and gyms shut back down (around late November/mid-December). While still in this more restrictive phase Gold’s again charged my credit card in January 2021 and I once again emailed the Retention Team and expressed my concern that they’re reopening the gym and charging people when the gym shouldn’t be open and that they’re not notifying people to make a decision on returning to the gym (like 24 Hour Fitness and LA Fitness).When I emailed the retention team I was informed that they would provide me with a 3-month freeze while I made a decision on returning to the gym. Within a day of contacting the retention team I was charged for the membership on my credit card again, I had to dispute and block the transaction with the bank and provide a copy of the email where Gold’s provided the 3-month extension. Within 2 days of putting the block on my credit card I was inundated by Gold’s calling multiple times a day for weeks to update my payment information. When I called the gym I had informed them that I am currently on a freeze that was placed by their retention team and was told that no one would call again to update the credit card until after the freeze was over. (Little did I know that the reason the calls stopped is because the person I spoke to on the phone only removed my phone number from my account and not that they acknowledged the authorized and approved freeze.)Now (as of April 7, 3 months after my freeze was initiated) I returned to the gym in-person to pay the $125 cancellation fee for the membership and was told that I needed to contact ABC Financial so they could take the payment. I arrived at the location at 11 AM in April 7th and after waiting for an hour because the gym could not “locate” my active membership they informed me that I would need to call a different company to have my account closed. After 2 hours on the phone with this horrible outsourced company they asked me to send them the emails from the Retention Team that acknowledged and approved the freeze, when the emails were received they told me that the freeze was a gym level “promotion” and that I would need to contact them to address the freeze because they were obligated to charge me for “past due” payments for 5 months plus the early termination fee (ETF).When I informed ABC Financial that I would not be paying that and they could just charge me the $125 ETF they said they could not. So I contacted Gold’s again and they told me to contact Mark Lemons to have the issue addressed, it has not been a little over 72 hours and I have not received any response from Mr Lemons.It is because of the horrible customer service at this gym that I cannot recommend anyone enroll in this gym. And I am currently still waiting for Mr. Lemons to return my email and fix this issue so thatI can pay the $125 ETF.

Comment: I’m a health coach and I worked in gyms most of my life. I have never encountered such lack of professionalism then I did with the manager at this gym. Without any notification Golds started to charge my monthly fee in the start of 2021. 3 months later I am getting daily harassing phone calls about my account and when I call them the manager tells me that I owe hundreds of dollars in membership and late fees.I explained that I am not going back because of Covid and that I was never notified about my membership resuming. The manager told me that an email was sent and that if I don’t pay in 2 weeks they will put me into collections. I’m outraged that they can take advantage of people like this during the pandemic. I’m sure that this happened to hundreds if not thousands of people. Then I was told that I need to give a 30 day notice and if my charge falls within that time I will have to pay that as well! 🤯I don’t write many reviews but this got me so aggravated that I needed to share this. I’ve been in the health and fitness industry for over 15 years and I have never done anything like this to any of my members. It’s never about the members here, it’s always about the money 💵

Comment: The parking lot is a tricky maze with no signs for the gym anywhere.Nobody cared to attend to me for several minutes. The guy that was behind the counter didnt acknowledge me and walked away as soon as he finished helping the person ahead of me.The signs outside say, No Contract, but they ask you to sign a waver giving them permission to give out your contact info to their affiliates.They offer month to month but require 3 months payment in advance.No swimming pool.The gym is filled with plastic people, grunting and dripping sweat everywhere.Their business hours are the same as my work hours.It looks to me like they only have young, gullible members who didnt want to look cheap and turn down the offer.My 17 yr old son got trapped. I had to check it out.

That isnt bad enough to warrant this review, but by canceling within 5 days I was told I would get my money back. Golds gym has not only refused to refund me, but they have continued to charge me. I have called them 4 times, and everytime I have been told they will call me back. They never have. This practice seems highly illegal and I am working on a different solution to getting my money back.

When I asked how it is possible that they let people have indoor personal training and maskless group sessions, while others need to go to the overcrowded outdoor area, where there is no capacity limit enforced, manager Jermaine told me that their clients pay extra for the privilege to work out inside. To the question as of how this is legal and how does Gold’s Gym think that the extra money will protect people from COVID, he said that Gold’s Gym is a private business and they do what they want.

I drove down there for like 15-20 minutes for my free trial, paid $4 parking after spending 15 more minutes finding a parking spot. and once I went in they said no, sorry you cant come in. We dont do free trials on sunday. Then offered me I could pay $40 for a one day entrance? If I paid that I could come in!! I explained kindly that the website never said that and I already had driven so long and paid a full parking, they didnt care at all without any hesitance told me to leave.What an unpleasant experience!

Comment: Future customers be ware : shady business practices : look up many other reviews! I requested to cancel my membership at the very start of the lockdowns (we just had a newborn). After weeks of trying to get through (no one would answer the phone), finally I was promised of cancellation on the phone by a clerk. Nonetheless, I still was charged 3 times afterwards (2 months + yearly fee for 2021). I was charged for June and July 2020 while the gym apparently was open for the total of a week or so. I was going to let those summer charges slide, but then I got charged again in 2021. The management and staff are a total mess, they gave me a turn around with “we don’t know why” & “we’ll call you back” even though they admitted that they see the membership cancellation request on my account. After a week of calling them every day, finally clerk Jermaine in a “gotcha” moment told me that I was supposed to call a “third party”. WTH?! If that’s not a sophisticated bureaucratic scam to get as much $$$ from you as possible then I don’t know what is.

Comment: I am writing this review in regard to continued poor customer service experiences at Golds Gym at Fig at 7th. Like many other reviewers, I have gotten no response or outright refusal to refunding me for incorrectly charged membership and personal training fees during the pandemic. Their staffs lack of concern for their members health and safety is predatory.I have been a member at the Golds Gym in Downtown LA for close to a year now, with general membership and personal training sessions. About a month ago, I requested to freeze my membership and my personal training sessions at Golds Gym due to concerns of the ongoing pandemic.On July 1st, I was still charged for one of my account’s membership dues as well as personal training. To rectify the incorrect charges and ask for a refund, I’ve called your staff – who never pick up the phone. I reached out to my personal trainer at Gold’s to try to resolve this situation (this shouldn’t be his responsibility in the first place). And he was gracious enough to have Jaime give me a call and to formally place my account on hold (why wasn’t this done in the first place?). I asked for a refund from Jaime, and he said he didn’t have the ability to give me a refund and I would have to speak with Marco. He said Marco would definitely give me a call back to follow up on this. I never received that call. So I then emailed customer retention at Gold’s Gym and received very curt and unhelpful replies to my concerns. They had me reach out to ABC services – who then told me that they cannot process refunds without the authorization of Gold’s Gym Socal.Your staff did not do their job. Your staff has taken zero responsibility, keeps giving misinformation, and does not resolve my issues. Your staffs lack of consideration over customer concerns during a global pandemic makes me want to never return.Clearly, my health and safety is not the gym’s top priority as the Gold’s Gym website so states. I am so disappointed and frustrated at repeated poor customer experiences.I would not recommend this gym to anyone. You can find similarly priced gyms very close by where at least the staff will treat you as a human being.

Ive been a long time member at Golds Gym and Ive appreciated many of the services the gym offers. 2 weeks ago, I went in to freeze my account at Golds Gym due to concerns of the ongoing pandemic. I had asked the front desk to freeze both my account and my girlfriends account. The guy at the desk confirmed he had frozen both accounts.On July 1st, to my dismay, my girlfriend was still charged. I called your staff and spoke to two people, one at the front desk, a woman, who was little help, and Jermaine Scott. The front desk woman told me that I had to go into another Golds gym in order to freeze both accounts. Jermaine told me that I had to go in person to have my account frozen (when I did). He also said that I did not give 10 days in advance for a freeze (how do we predict an ongoing crisis?). He then claimed that it wasnt their responsibility that I was still charged (then whos is it?).I politely asked for a refund, and Jermaine told me it was too late and my girlfriend had been charged already. He continued to argue that it was my fault I did not give them advance notice, and there was nothing he could do.. except offer me a free month.My issues with this are:One of my accounts was frozen, the other wasnt. Your staff did not do their job freezing both accountsYour staff was rude and blamed their customers for their staffs errors. They took zero responsibility, and gave misinformation.Your staffs lack of consideration over customer concerns. I specifically said that my girlfriend and I did not feel safe therefore we did not want to continue going to the gym. Sorry but offering an additional month to the gym does not resolve that.Overall, very poor customer experience. Please be nicer to people especially during these times.

Comment: Update March 1, 2020.Requested for a small towel. Male black receptionist didnt bother to locate one from this big bin and just said none. Hes not even busy. I left and got the big towel instead but came back after 5 minutes since theres a different person manning the reception area. She searched and gave me one small towel. To management, one lazy receptionist could damage your image.Original post: Clean compared to other local gyms. Very crowded during peak hours. Parking validation for 3 hours. Friendly staff.Update after 3months (from 4 to 3 stars)Free weights scattered all around the gym. Management cannot discipline the members to re rack their equipments. Some members really dont care.

Comment: Been a member for about 3 mnts now. I really like it! Alfredo who teaches Body Sculpt on M,W,F, is probably one of the best trainers I’ve had in a really long time! Great trainer and just an overall great guy. GG is lucky to have him because he could probably start his own business and do very well… seriously! Anyhow, the only complaint I would have is that I wish they kept the men’s locker room cleaner. I’m loyal for the moment until a) Alfredo leaves, or b) the locker room gets worst.

Comment: I moved here from NYC 9 months ago and upon moving here, I joined 24 hour fitness. I no longer like 24 hour fitness, so I wanted to try out Golds using the online guest pass that they offer. I came in to activate it and was initially allowed in with my NY license. I come back a couple of days later and was then told I couldnt come in because of my NY state license after I had already been told that I was cleared to try out the gym for the week. So because of this, I will be joining LA fitness instead. You guys lost a potential customer because of this less than smart state id stipulation. And honestly, this particular Golds gym isnt all that great anyway...very congested with obnoxious energy overall...very overrated. So thank you. Im sure I dodged a bullet and will be putting my money elsewhere.

Comment: ... Its only gotten worse. Getting in to the gym from the only feasable parking is a disaster on its own (not the gyms fault I know). Once youre in no what time of day, its a complete mess. Equipment thrown everywhere, not nice or rude staff... just there, filfy locker rooms and even worse restrooms. Almost every machine needing attention and plates/pins to set weight are covered in rust.

When I speak to someone at the front desk, they give wrong information and claim someone will follow up but never do. They however, have no problem texting me and calling me several times about spending more money to get a trainer and etc. I’ve been a member of Gold’s Gym in 4 different states prior to this and have never had such a terrible experience.

Comment: Honestly when I first stepped into Golds Gym for the 1st time I was very intimidated. I felt that this was not the right environment for me as a starter. This all changed when I met Joshua. I forgot if he was the manager of the sales department but one thing is for sure.He is a leader and I say that since he changed my entire prospective when coming to the gym. Instead of trying to sell me right up front. He went ahead and asked me about my fitness goals and showed me what type of equipment to use in order to help me achieve my goal. He was very well informed throughout the entire tour as well as very caring towards what I needed. When it came down to memberships he went ahead and presented the options that were available. Honestly they were a little more pricier than 24 or LA but on thing is for sure; the quality that Joshua represent not just for him, but for the club as well made me commit with Golds. Ever since, Joshua has followed up with me and has encouraged me in my fitness journey and in the small time that I have spent at this club I have seen changes in my body that I never wouldve thought Id see. I like to thank Joshua for helping me see the bigger picture not just in myself but in fitness as well and would definitely recommend him to everyone since for someone who was young acted extremely professional with me and my goals. Best of luck to this guy in the future as he is for sure destined to go far with his skill as well as thank you golds gym for helping me in my journey!

Comment: Its...ok... some of the staff (ESPECIALLY bunny at the front and Eric in PT) are exceptional but for the most part they are pretty uncaring ESPECIALLY on the management end. Usually about 35% of the equipment is out of order and gets fixed God only knows when. Pretty cluttered (especially for a gym.) With people leaving weights EVERYWHERE and no visible cleaning team to speak of, so if youre clumsy, beware. Pool area is clean and the pool ph (I check every time) is always great. Terrible place for people who are new to fitness (like me) and definitely comes off VERY corporate. Couldnt care less about your fitness or gym going experience after they have your $$$.

Comment: Im a proud member of Golds gym and work out at Hollywood, Glendale, Venice. Never havr i been to such a low quality location. They only have 2 spinning cycles 😂 neither work by the way, also 5stair masters 3 of dont work. The staff seem very unprofessional, i came once near closing and they were rushing us out of the locker room with an associate screaming for us to hurry up because she was going to do a locker sweep. I asked them for out of order signs to place on tbe machines for them, but the front desk insisted they knew, and had no signs this location needs a corporate visit asap, an i will be calling corporate tomorrow to suggest just that.

Comment: They do a great job of maintaining this gym for how old it is. It is over 15 years old, and still looks impressively new, mostly due to upgraded equipment, and a solid cleaning regimen.Pros are water bottle filling stations, towel service, and a solid offering of equipment options for a decent price.Cons are that they don’t have enough cleaning solution or hand sanitizer, there is a huge brand new area they built out promising to be “a new workout area for all members” that is only specific paid group classes (figures), and the fact that it’s going to be busy pretty much any time. However, I don’t have to wait on equipment often, and for comparison, the brand new LA fitness nearby (previously a member) looks about 15 years older than the Gold’s already.

Comment: When I signed up the manager Bryan said my first and last month would be covered. Today I canceled and a female worker said that I still owe last months fee. Do not sign up at this gym. They are liars and have very little integrity. If you sign up youll have a one year commitment and with a dreaded cancellation fee of $150. Plus theyll charge you $45 twice a year for maintenance. There are some odd fees that will show up in your bank statements as well. Once you finish your one year commitment they still will charge for the last month despite the manager telling you other wise. They only care about your money and lie on their contracts. Save your money. The gym is crowded and so is the street intersection.

They promised a year ago that the remodeled portion of the gym would be open by March at the latest.1 year later, it’s still closed off. Every machine is 2-3 people deep in wait time, even at 6am. Only 6 stair masters and at least 1 is always broken. Try to get a leg day in before work? Allow at least 2 hours due to overcrowding and machine wait times. That I’ve hung in there for the past year in hope that the new area would open and alleviate space...First staff member says yes we can offer a refund, let me get my manager. Next manager seems confused and unsure. Next they bring over another manager that talks down to me and tells me that the cancellation fee is more than it would be to continue my last few months. (I paid 15 months up front for my husband and I the day we joined)He walks me around the gym and tells me “this isn’t even busy” we are usually a lot busier. Consider that I was asked to move twice and had to wait 10 min for a stair master today... and that’s not even busy according to the manager.I also ask about the monthly promotions, they are always advertising to bring a friend for free, bring your mom for free, etc.. this gym is TOO CROWDED & paying members are MISERABLE!!! Only response is we are a franchise... I get that it is likely not in his control. But if you are upper management at this gym and you are reading this ... feedback is a gift.The staff at gold’s made promises they didn’t keep by stating that the new area would be open. It is not. The manager does not offer anything to retain me as a client. Further, he does not offer any type of refund for the balance 4 months of my membership: December 2018 - March 2019. There is YouTube video of a manager here telling me that he knew the Amazon paperwork is fake and its illegal to ask for it but told me I would have to get something like that to have a service dog in the facility and even then access to the showers and hot tub will be withheld. Comment: Been coming here for 15 years. The best time to come is early in the morning, although the pool gets really crowded with the Asian grandmas early on (not that its a bad thing). My only gripe is that the remodeling and expansion that has taken place over the past couple of years kind of reduced the individual workout and stretching areas just so they can have more space dedicated to personal trainers. Comment: Infrastructure is great, provides you towels as well. It can be difficult getting grab if a trainer as there is no general calendar. I was supposed to be there only for a month thanks to an offer and later found out the used my signature to sign me up for a 54$ monthly subscription without telling me anything. When Iafter a couple of months I went back there saying I did not have a subscription but I wanted to use a card that gave me free attendance for another month, they said no worries you can keep the card without saying that in their system it resulted I had a subscription. They are very sneaky you are going to sign for the gym insurance and find yourself signed up for a subscription without knowing. On credit card account comes as ABC Financial so I discovered only after a few months. I called them that refused to admit mistake and had to call credi card that told me they had received several complains about this practice at Gold’s and reimbursed me the money taken from my account.

This happened yesterday at the lockers 10pm i accidentally slammed the locker not on purpose that wasnt my intention whatsoever i apologized to her many times explained what happened she thought i wanted to hurt her basically got crazy she started yelling at me threatening me that she is going to call the cops and get me banned from the gym the whole time i did not yell at her or curse her out i respected her keep my cool the whole i was shaking awhile talking to her not once did i threaten her in any way. My mom got involved and asked her nicely whats going on whats the problem the lady got crazy she started yelling at my mom telling her i threaten her tried to hurt her which was a lie that she is a bad mom and then continue to racist comments towards my mom saying know how to speak English you dont belong in this country they continued to go back and forth arguing the lady was getting more and more angry getting close to my mom swinging her shoes at her directly she threaten me and my mom many times. I dont not know who this lady is but she goes to the gym regular she is asian pale skin black med short hair straight she usually just wears black clothing height 55 What happened left me shaking a lot i had a anxiety attack what happened last night was not okay whatsoever there was an employee in restroom she didnt do anything at all she heard what happened but didnt say anything or try to stop it. I really wanna talk to someone about this because i do not feel safe whatsoever if she is there at the gym.

Ive had trainers in the past and Ive had some irritating moments with staff but time and time again, Sunny has tried to go over and beyond. Hes punctual and has a written plan for your sessions. Comment: Pros - This facility has a wide range and decent amount of equipment. My trainer is good. It has a pool, steam room, sauna, and hot tub. They give towels at the entrance. Parking validation up to three hours is useful.Cons - This facility is extremely overcrowded at peak hours and even during downtime it is still alot of people there. Because of overcrowding, the mens restroom stalls usually require you to wait in line to use one. There is not much privacy in the mens locker room and if you want a little more privacy you have to pay for it. There is not enough squat racks or free bars here. People are not courteous with time spent on machines or benches. Also people do not put back their weights. The parking facility terrible here because it is very overpriced and overcrowded especially when leaving from here. The pool is not deep. There is not much space in the locker room. Most people here dress inappropriately. Machines are often broke. Gym membership is expensive for the quality when you consider that the YMCA has many of the same equipments but with less crowding and deeper pools. Long walk from the parking lot to the gym. I once hurt myself here and was limping in pain and barely able to walk but not one staff member asked if I was alright or if I needed assistance to my car or if I need paramedics. I had to ask another gym member to help me. When you get a class schedule there is no description on the classes, it just tells you the time and title. Too many people not even working out up here, they are just hanging out. Not sure if they sanitize the mat that everyone uses by the exercise balls or if they ever sanitize the smaller mats.

A planned expansion of the facility will provide a brief, temporary distraction from the abysmal level of staff professionalism, then reality will hit again.In the past, you knew who the manager was. Now, its a revolving door of nameless faces who make no effort to learn their customers names. Why should they? Theyre gone in 60 seconds.The conduct of newer gym members is also an issue. There is nothing wrong with educating them to be considerate of other gym members. Ive seen signs at other gyms to remind users to re-rack the weights. They should also be educated not to hoard several barbells and dumbbell sets, or to set their personal items on a vacant workout bench or equipment. If they dont comprehend simple gym etiquette, then return their subscription fees.I continue to use this gym ONLY because of its location. Increasingly, I have been making the 40-minute drive to Arcadia or the 20-minute drive to Hollywood to experience a clean, well-managed gym where the customers are respectful of each other.When I first joined (nearly 9 years ago) there was a sense of exclusivity and class. The word that comes to mind now: Disgusting. I will be changing gyms at the end of my current subscription.

First, they overcharged my account on multiple occasions and refused to refund my money for a mistake they made even after acknowledging their mistake. Any issue Ive had Ive dealt with less than competent management and rude staff. Comment: This is probably the best gym ever been to, and it was the best decision of my life. I went as fat piece of lard, and I felt really out of place next to all those muscular hunks. Comment: The chlorine in the jacuzzi literally made me cough when I inhaled deeply and dried out my eyes for the rest of the night. The facility and equipment is clean and neat which is nice. Most of the extra tech features on the treadmills and other machines dont function properly. The facility gets super crowded so try to go during off peak times.

Comment: I joined last year and so far Ive been happy, I think its a pretty clean gym, parking is great, Customer service is good, and compared to other gyms Ive belonged to this gym is allot cleaner. If you see the benefits of your health and 30,50 or 60 bucks is not much, yet people go spend 800 on an IPhone just saying. From my experience this gym is great and keeps me motivated to stay fit.

Comment: Ive been a member of Golds Gym Downtown LA for 5 years now. They have a pool, steam room and sauna. I love that I dont have to bring my own towel. They give you 1 towel when you walk in, they have hair dryers, tissues shampoo, body wash and Q-tips inside the lockers. I pay around $44 a month! Its not cheap but, honestly I love it! There is a LA fitness a block away but, that place is always full of people and I dont want to wait in line just to use a cardio machine. I give it 4 stars because the locker room is too small and some lockers dont work! And you only get 2 hrs of free parking with validation, after that there is a charge.

Comment: Horrible staff!! RODOLFO is one of the worst salesman ever. He will berate you to sign-up for a membership. I bought a groupon to test out the gym and he was pressuring me to buy a membership the very first day. Again and again after I said no I want to test it out, hence buying the groupon, he kept asking, so whats the problem? Im just trying to save you money. Well sometimes its not about the money but the experience and he provided one of the worst gym experiences in my life! When I said that I rather wait and test out the gym he insinuated that I was stupid and officially offended me. He compared me to his 5-year kid and Im a grown adult. I asked him if he worked off commission and stated his sales technique was aggressive. From there made a big stint about how hes just trying to save me money. Instead of making the gym a welcoming place Rodolfo made it a place where I never want to go back. Worst welcoming experience! DO NOT go to this Golds Gym!

Comment: Its an okay gym. The only reason why its so pricey is because of the pool and the steam room. Other than that, no membership should be over $30 just for weights and cardio machines.This place is crowded most of the time and dumbbells are never racked correctly. So if youre looking for 30 or 45 lbs dumbbells, good luck with that. All their bench press somehow are always taken. Youre better off doing dumbbell press, if you can find a flat bench that is.Staff has improved their customer service. Sales will always be pushy towards trying to sell. Simply because they are franchise.

Comment: I have seen such a difference in the last month. The maintenance are on top of the cleanliness, the locker rooms are so much cleaner, especially the womens. (They even fixed the toilets finally) You can tell that the team really enjoys what they do as they are always smiling and welcoming, even the management is available now if you ever need anything. They even use my name now when I come in. I dont really care for them restricting the towels, but I appreciate Golds efforts to help the water crisis in CA. Even if it means I have to go back and ask for another towel. Overall I am happy I stayed and look forward to being a member of Golds.

Comment: This Golds Gym location is extremely small but I guess it does the job if you come at the right time to avoid the crowd. Its really easy to pack this place up because of how small it is.I do appreciate the various toys that are offered to fitness enthusiasts, which makes it different from your typical L.A. Fitness or 24 Hours Fitness.The parking is validated for up to 2 hours, I believe. Dont quote me on this but it helps. Parking lot can be crazy, too, and is not the best designed.

Comment: The last time I was at Golds Gym was about 10 years ago, when this location has just recently opened. Because there wasnt a high number of residents in the Downtown LA area, this gym was never packed allowing for you to have any machine of your choosing whenever you wanted it. I also remember being able to park on any floor on the Fig7th structure and although I might be mistaken, parking was unlimited.Fast forward 10 years and...-Seemingly every hour is a peak hour-Although additional equipment has been added you may need to wait for a particular machine-Parking is limited to Levels 1-3; validated for only 3 hoursOverall, GG continuous to be a hospitable gym. The only thing is I wish fees were not so high.

Comment: This could be a great gym. Theres a wide variety of equipment, both free weights and machines; a pool; a boxing ring; steam room and sauna. Three hours free parking. AND they hand out free towels! Ive been to a number of Golds Gyms in So. Cal. and this is the only one Ive found that does. Kudos for that.So whats my complaint? Culture. And its a big one.Every gym has its own culture, and two gyms, both called Golds, can be like night and day. At Downtown L.A., the management has allowed a disrespectful, its-all-about-me culture to develop among the members that makes things very unpleasant for those of us who are serious about working out.Despite the signs, few members re-rack weights or put things away. Youre finished with those 35-lb. dumbbells? Just leave em on the floor and walk off. Youre a big guy who deadlifts 405? When youre done, leave the loaded bar on the floor and hit the shower; the next guy can unload the eight 45-lb. plates. The dumbbell rack is chaos: 15-lb. bells are next to 85-lb. ones, and sometimes to find two dumbbells that match you have to search the entire gym to see where someone left that missing 40-lb.-er. By late afternoon, so many plates and dumbbells are scattered over the workout floor, you need to navigate carefully so as not to trip and break your neck.It doesnt have to be that way. If you try the Golds Gyms in Hollywood or Pasadena, say, youll find order instead of chaos and members who respect the club and each other. Why this should be so different Downtown is a mystery to me; the only thing I can think of is that the management doesnt care, and that attitude gets absorbed by the clientele.

Comment: The worse customer service EVER!!! Young, unknowledgeable staff who will stop in the middle of a discussion with a client (me) - to get up and hug half naked girls that just wanted to say hello! I joined the gym originally in Arcadia and mentioned to them that I may be moving to downtown LA...they said no problem because that gym was part of their franchise. However, once I moved here and went to the gym to move my membership, it took me 3 days to complete because every time I went, all managers are in a staff meeting! But what really pissed me off was that now they are trying to change my contract to pay more money because its downtown ....but its the same franchise. I dont think so. I will be taking them to small claims court because its the principle of it all. There is so much more...but just dont want to write a book here.

Comment: I joined this gym the first year it opened (1998?). Nobody wanted to go to a dark underground gym with now windows in downtown LA. They were begging people to join by offering $99/yr lifetime membership. Now that its trendy and more popular, every year they try to cancel my contract by not accepting my payment and telling me it has to be approved by corporate. I have been trying to renew (pay for) my membership for 7 months now. They wont do it. I have the signed contract as proof of my membership so I just go in anyway. They have not upgraded their equipment since the place opened. A lot of it is getting rusty.

Comment: Skip this gym if you can. And whatever you do DONT TRY THE FREE TRIAL MEMBERSHIP, ITS A SCAM.This used to be a decent gym. But now machines, which most are outdated, sit broken for months.The pool area is disgusting. Its covered in mucus/spit, people swim in their dirty underpants, creeps hang out wearing small towels and nothing else. Its also impossible to get a lane as dozens of old ladies hog ALL THE LANES ALL DAY long having social hour. Oh and the pool people will dump chemicals on you when youre in the pool or hot tub.Pray nothing goes wrong with your account while youre there. People often get overcharged, or in my case Ive paid but they dont havent had me listed for 6 months now as a member. Management is utterly incompetent and will never bother to resolve these issues.Pros: Free towels and nice check in girlsCons: Everything else.Save your money and go to YMCA or LA Athletic club or any other place instead.

Comment: The management as this gym is pretty pitiful and the employees pressure you into signing up for long-term 1 yr. plus deals that are a pain to get out of. Also, the personal training sessions are beyond pricey.However the gym itself is pretty state-of-the-art and the locker rooms are spacious. But cheaper options in the LA area do exist and they wont be nearly as crowded as this gym is (especially at peak hours.)

Comment: I love this gym! Its phenomenal!By far, this is my favorite gym in Los Angeles. The towel service is great, theres a boxing ring, and theres punching bags too. They also have kettlebells and a full pool, sauna, hot tub, and steam room. The validated parking is really nice too!Ive never used the personal training services here, but I do know that their equipment is kept in great shape and their staff is very friendly. I used to come here almost every morning before work, and I was so bummed that I moved because I wanted to keep on working out here!

Comment: The gym itself isnt that bad. Its kind of a get what you pay for type place. The biggest problem is this place is always packed! There is never really a Down time during the week. The hours are great during the week, I just wish they were open until 11pm on the weekends. There are more people living downtown these days and I think these folks would attend the gym on those late hours as well. The juice bar closes an hour before closing right on the dot. They should be a little bit more flexible when it comes to their juice bar closing hours. Then again this isnt a country club so I guess thats just how they are going to treat you.

Comment: Ive always been a gym lover. Ever since I moved to LA, I wanted to check out some cool gyms where I can comfortably do my routines. My boyfriend Mark was the one who referred me to this gym as he was a member of this gym prior to moving to New York. I love the place. I mean it fits your budget. I get my body fit without taking too much toll on my pocket. :)

Comment: Pretty good gym. I just moved to LA and used to have the luxury of working out at a private colleges gym. Even though it is busy, and sometimes difficult to get on the exact piece of equipment at the time you want (just part of living in LA...)... I never fail to get a good workout in. Parking is free (2 hrs), staff is super cool. Its nice and clean even when I go in peak hours. The pool is small compared to what Im used to but the steam room, sauna, and showers are great after a good workout.

Comment: The classes are great, but one big problem the Gym is too cheep to get new microphone for instructors! So they have to try to yell over the music. Makes it hard to follow at times also sometimes their is delay because the music wont work either.They also got rid of speed bag & rest room needs new exhaust system. It smells so bad next to the sink where the air from the shower and air from the toilet meet I almost puked. I dont think I will stay much longer - it has really started to go down hill lately.
